A look at camping on the beach

Well if you are here reading this article then you are most likely going for camping on the beach or at least thinking about it and if you are wondering what are the useful things and essentials to bring to camping on the beach then this is the perfect article for you.

While you are camping on the beach you have to keep in mind a lot of things and pack your backpack according to it.

Challenges for camping on the beach

  • A lot of harmful UV rays
  • The limited amount of fresh and clean water
  • fast winds and storms
  • Finding a safe location for camping on the beach
  • cold winds in the night

There are other factors to keep in mind too but these are the most common and important challenges. So, let’s take a look at how to solve all these problems.

Finding a location

Finding a good and safe location is very important and the first thing you should do. You can just search on the internet and research about the beach if it is safe or if they even allow you to camp there. A lot of beaches don’t allow camping so, you should research first and find a beach that best suits your situation and requirements.

The right shelter

You need to find the right shelter to protect you from the sun’s harmful UV rays and cold winds and storms and where you can spend the night.

The most obvious choice is a tent of course. If you are going camping on the beach then you should not just take any normal tent with you as they are not made for the conditions at the beach. There are tents made especially for the beach and they are called beach tents. They provide UV rays protection, a plenty of room, stays strong even on the sand and they are super easy to set up. They usually take less than 5 minutes to set up.

If you are on a beach where the weather is cold at nights then only getting into a tent won’t save you from the cold. In that case, you should bring a sleeping bag with yourself, these will protect you from the cold. That is the reason you should always research the weather and the beach you are going camping to know about how the weather is gonna play out. If you are gonna buy a tent then I would suggest you to go for TETON Sports LEEF -18C Ultralight Mummy Sleeping Bag.

Now that we have addressed most of the challenges and how to solve them. Now it’s time to look at some things to bring camping on the beach.

Things to bring camping on the beach

A STOVE!

To cook foods you need a stove. Now obviously if you are more adventurous, you can cook food by the campfire or other ways. But if you are not that good, or you don’t want to do all that stuff then go for a portable stove.

A Heater (only if needed)

This is not a must-have. As I said above if the weather is really cold then you might need to take a camping heater into consideration. You can check out the best camping heater for tent, this article is dedicated to heaters to use in the tent where you can’t make a campfire. To produce heat outside of the tent, you don’t need to waste money on a different heater just make a campfire or bonfire and enjoy your time but for the inside of the tent check out that article.

Ziploc Bag

To carry all the sensitive items like your phone, camera, portable speakers, wallets, sunglasses etc. you need a Ziploc bag to carry all those items. It will also keep all your stuff organized and you won’t have to worry about losing any item.

Large container for water!

Because of the limited supply of clean and fresh water on the beach, you have to take drinking water with yourself in a large container but even then it’s probably not gonna be enough. So, a large container will help because you will have to fill that it only a few times and hopefully it will last longer.

Portable Speakers (optional)

Now this one is optional. If you want to enjoy your nights and day on the beach with your favorite music then you should check out the best portable speakers for camping.

Trash bags!

You have to take some trash bag to keep all your mess in that and not making the beach dirty. You should put all your trash throughout your camping session in those trash bags and keep the beach clean and a good camping experience for others.

A beach umbrella!

This will keep you protected from the sun’s harmful rays when you are outside the tent.

Cookware Items!

You need some cookware essentials like disposable plates, cups, and other stuff and some containers in which you are gonna cook your food.

Remember not to throw food on the beach too as that would make the beach dirty too.

Some other stuff to take with you!

A sunscreen with high SPF – While getting tanned is a good experience, you need to keep in mind the fact that the sun’s rays are very harmful and cause some serious damage to your skin, even skin cancer. So, make sure you have a sunscreen to apply on your skin whenever you are exposed to the sun. Reapply after getting in touch with water like after swimming or surfing.

A hat – Not just any hat, you need a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face from the sunlight.

Sunglasses – These are obvious but I thought while I am at it let’s just mention it too.

Flashlight – You need to take a flashlight to see stuff in the dark. Also take some extra batteries, just in case.

Toothpaste and toothbrush – This is also obvious but always make sure you bring them with you. One good alternative to these is mouthwash. These are perfect for this kind of situation. So, a better choice is a mouthwash.

A dustpan and a brush – This will help you keep the sand out of the tent which can be sometimes very annoying.

And that’s pretty much it. That’s all you need if you are planning for camping on the beach.

Some Safety Tips

  • Always stay hydrated while you are under the sun. While under the sun your body will get dehydrated pretty quick so, make sure to drink water in regular intervals.
  • Do not go to remote beaches. These are typically those beaches where there is no one else like the lifeguard to keep an eye on your safety. Make sure there is always a lifeguard while you are swimming or surfing. These kinds of beaches usually don’t have good phone reception too. So, try to avoid these kinds of beaches.
  • If you do not know swimming then you should not go far in the water as sometimes the flow of water is too high and you will be unable to make your way back on to the shore.
  • Set up your tent away from tides. This one is not much of a safety tip but always set up your tent away from tides because it can destroy your tent in minutes.
